Practice pace remains unrewarded for CV Performance Group X JP Motorsport in Oschersleben

Oschersleben. The third round of the ADAC GT4 Germany season was a weekend of highs and lows for CV Performance Group X JP Motorsport. In front of 55,000 spectators at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, Jonathan Engström and Kyam Potez showed promising pace in their Mercedes-AMG GT4, particularly during free practice. However, the young driver duo was not yet able to fully translate that potential into corresponding results in the two races.

The Mercedes-AMG GT4 was consistently running in the top ten as early as the practice sessions. However, there was a setback during the final free practice on Thursday: Potez went off the track, damaging the chassis. The team subsequently put in a great deal of effort to repair the car, ensuring that Engström and Potez could continue their weekend as planned.

In the first qualifying session on Saturday, the duo secured 13th place on the grid with a lap time of 1:30.976 minutes. This placed the Mercedes-AMG in the tightly packed midfield of the highly competitive GT4 series. During the one-hour race on Saturday, Engström and Potez fought for position in several close groups. Overtaking remained difficult on the 3.667-kilometer track. Despite an overall solid performance and 38 error-free laps, the car was unable to make a decisive move forward. After just over an hour of racing, the duo crossed the finish line in 15th place.

On Sunday, the Mercedes-AMG GT4 qualified in 14th place. The team again showed consistent race pace in the second heat, remaining within striking distance of the cars ahead for the entire distance. However, the starting position and limited overtaking opportunities once again prevented a significant jump in the standings. Engström and Potez brought the Mercedes-AMG GT4 home in 14th place. While this was a one-position improvement over the previous day, it remained below their potential. Based on the insights gained during free practice, the team believes they have the potential for a top-eight finish.

Despite the results still having room for improvement, CV Performance Group X JP Motorsport takes away important lessons from Oschersleben. The car's pace was there for much of the weekend; now the goal is to translate that into better positions more consistently as the season progresses. The next opportunity will be from August 14th to 16th at the Nürburgring, where the ADAC GT4 Germany kicks off the second half of its season.
