CV Performance Group X JP Motorsport was in action at three different locations last weekend. While the season finale of the German Kart Championship was held at ProKart Raceland Wackersdorf, Marlon Di Salvo competed in the Polo Cup Germany at the Lausitzring. At the same time, the team also took part in the GT4 South series in Valencia. With a championship podium, a podium finish in the Polo Cup, and two top-ten results in GT4 racing, the team looks back on an eventful weekend.
Lundsholm finishes DKM season third in the championship
Mikas Toro Lundsholm made his team debut in the Mini class at the DKM finale. After placing ninth in qualifying, the two heats were a mixed bag, with finishes of 14th and 29th. In the Super Heat, Lundsholm fought his way back up to ninth and entered the final in 14th. A strong recovery drive followed, taking him up to seventh place. Even more important, however, was the overall standings: with 322 points, the CV driver finished the season third in the German Mini Kart Championship.
Matthias Cavulea also showed positive development in the team's second Mini. From 19th place in qualifying, he worked his way up to 15th on the starting grid for the final via a tenth-place finish in the Super Heat. In the decisive race, Cavulea gained further positions and crossed the finish line in ninth. This meant CV Performance placed two drivers in the top ten of the Mini final.
Elliot Spangtoft made a strong statement in the OK-N Junior class. After seventh place in qualifying and heat results of sixth and tenth, he was already among the frontrunners. Spangtoft left the competition behind in the Super Heat and celebrated the win, which earned him a spot on the second row for the final. Unfortunately, he had to end that race early.
Sebastian Verger Morell and Adrian Lorenz represented the team colors in the OK-N class. Verger Morell was consistently among the frontrunners, placing eighth in qualifying and seventh and eighth in the heats. After starting the final from seventh, he was classified 16th. Lorenz worked his way up to 18th in the final after a more difficult start. Lorenz and Verger Morell finished the championship in 12th and 13th place respectively.
Max Hezel faced the competition in the highly competitive 56-driver KZ2 Cup, but ultimately could not find his rhythm and missed out on qualifying for the final.
Di Salvo crowns Lausitzring weekend with a podium
Parallel to the DKM finale, Marlon Di Salvo competed in the Polo Cup Germany at the Lausitzring. The weekend once again consisted of three qualifying sessions and three races, featuring tight gaps in the 20-car field.
After a mixed performance in the first two races, Di Salvo made a clear statement on Sunday. He put his Polo in second place in the third qualifying session, securing a spot on the front row.
He confirmed his strong pace in the final race. Di Salvo stayed in the lead group for the entire distance and took the podium in third place after 13 laps. This marks another important step for the young karting graduate in his first season of car racing. The podium finish was a strong response, especially after his early retirement in the second race, which ended for him after just one lap.
Strong GT4 South debut for Berglund
CV Performance Group X JP Motorsport was also represented in GT racing over the weekend. In Valencia, Gustav Berglund and Simon Connor Primm shared the Mercedes-AMG GT4 in the GT4 South series. For the young Swede Berglund, it was his first-ever race, yet he quickly found his way in the 27-car field.
In the first qualifying session, Berglund put the Mercedes-AMG in 14th place. In the second session, Primm secured a strong starting position with fifth place.
The first race started off difficult for the duo. Berglund handed the car over to his teammate in 18th place. Primm then launched a strong recovery drive, gained numerous positions, and brought the Mercedes-AMG GT4 home in an excellent fourth place.
The duo was also competitive in the second race. This time, Primm completed the first stint and handed the car over in sixth place. Berglund took over and brought the Mercedes home safely in eighth place in his first race weekend. The Swede thus celebrated a top-ten result in his very first race.
Berglund’s rapid adaptation, in particular, led to a positive conclusion. Despite having no prior GT4 racing experience, the youngster immediately held his own at the front of a large GT4 field and secured two strong results alongside Primm.
The team continues its season next weekend, when the ADAC Kart Masters finale takes place in Wackersdorf.
