Ampfing/Zolder. CV Performance Group X JP Motorsport was once again in action on two fronts last weekend. While the kart team competed in the second round of the ADAC Kart Masters at the Schweppermannring in Ampfing, Marlon Di Salvo faced a unique triple-header during the Polo Cup Germany’s first international guest appearance in Zolder, Belgium. Midsummer temperatures defined both events, pushing both drivers and equipment to their limits.

Strong OK-N duo in Ampfing

At the ADAC Kart Masters, 130 drivers met on the 1,063-meter track in Ampfing. CV Performance Group X JP Motorsport entered five drivers in the Mini, OK-N Junior, OK-N, and KZ2 classes. The sporting focus was once again on the OK-N class, where Sebastian Verger Morell and Adrian Lorenz collected important championship points.

Verger Morell started solidly with 11th place in qualifying and 9th in the first heat. However, a difficult second heat dropped him back to 16th in the intermediate rankings. He provided the perfect response in the Super Heat: gaining ten places, he fought his way up to 6th and entered the final in 7th. There, he made up further positions and finished the final race in a strong 5th place, securing a spot on the podium.

Lorenz experienced an up-and-down weekend. After consistent heats, he was disqualified in the Super Heat, dropping him to 20th on the starting grid for the final. The CV driver was not discouraged, however. With a determined charge, he gained ten positions to finish 10th. At the halfway point of the season, Lorenz and Verger Morell sit in fifth and sixth place in the championship, separated by just three points.

The other drivers also gained valuable experience. Matthias Cavulea had a consistent weekend in the Mini class, finishing the final in 11th place. Nicolas Hoppe was slowed down by two time penalties in the OK-N Junior class and was classified 25th. In the highly competitive 46-driver KZ2 field, Max Hezel improved significantly after qualifying 43rd. He just made the final in 36th place and worked his way up 11 positions to finish 25th.

Di Salvo shows strong development in Zolder

At the same time, a particularly intense weekend awaited in the Polo Cup Germany. To compensate for the cancelled season opener, the schedule in Zolder featured three separate qualifying sessions and three races in temperatures of up to 35 degrees. For Marlon Di Salvo, this meant a demanding physical and mental endurance test.

Even in free practice, the karting graduate was consistently in the top five and at times even held second and third positions. He confirmed this progress in qualifying with 6th, 10th, and 6th place starting positions.

Di Salvo initially finished the first race in a strong fourth place. However, during the subsequent technical inspection, it was found that the mandatory fire extinguisher system had not been activated, resulting in his disqualification. This meant his strong performance on the track yielded no countable result.

In the second race, Di Salvo once again showed his pace. For large parts of the race, he drove consistently at a top level and impressed with fast lap times in the field. After 25 intense minutes, he crossed the finish line in fifth place. He finished the third race in eighth, rounding off a convincingly strong sporting weekend.

The young driver's rapid development is particularly remarkable. It was only the third time Di Salvo had ever sat in a race car, yet he was already keeping pace with much more experienced competitors. Despite the extreme heat and the resulting loss of engine power, he was at times only a few tenths of a second off the lead.

Following this double program, the focus is already on the coming weekend, when the German Kart Championship returns to Ampfing. The Polo Cup Germany will not resume until after the summer break, from September 25th to 27th, at the Lausitzring.
