Kerpen/Nürburgring. CV Performance Group X JP Motorsport was once again active on two fronts last weekend. While four drivers competed in the fourth round of the German Kart Championship at the Erftlandring in Kerpen, Jonathan Engström and Kyam Potez took to the track at the Nürburgring in the Mercedes-AMG GT4 in front of 81,000 spectators. The team showed positive progress at both venues, particularly on Sunday, as they fought their way forward in the decisive races.
Strong recovery drives from Cavulea and Verger Morell
In Kerpen, the four CV drivers were met with warm summer conditions and high grip levels. Matthias Cavulea delivered the best result in the Mini class. After finishing tenth in qualifying, time penalties in both heats set him back, leaving him in 18th place after the preliminary races. He improved his position with a 14th-place finish in the Super Heat and started the final in 15th. Cavulea gained four more positions there, narrowly missing the top ten in 11th.
Sebastian Verger Morell staged an even bigger comeback in the OK-N class. After qualifying 19th, luck was not always on his side during the heats, forcing him to start the final from 28th on the grid. Verger Morell put in a strong performance, gaining 14 positions to take the checkered flag in 14th.
For Adrian Lorenz, the weekend began on a confident note with 14th place in qualifying. After finishing 11th in the first heat and facing a tougher second preliminary race, he took a step forward again with 11th in the Super Heat. Starting the final in 12th, his prospects were promising, but he was forced to retire from the race.
In the highly competitive KZ2 Cup, which featured 47 drivers, Max Hezel fought for a spot among the 36 finalists. Starting from 34th in qualifying, he worked his way forward several times during the heats. However, time penalties made his progress through the weekend difficult. After finishing 18th in the Super Heat, Hezel was classified 39th overall, missing out on a place in the final.
Upward trend in the ADAC GT4 Germany
At the same time, Jonathan Engström and Kyam Potez headed to the Nürburgring for the fourth round of the ADAC GT4 Germany. In front of an impressive crowd of 81,000 spectators, the duo once again faced high-class competition on the DTM platform.
CV Performance Group X JP Motorsport qualified 15th. However, the subsequent Saturday race ended prematurely without a result, denying the team a potential comeback.
On Sunday, the duo started the second one-hour race from 17th on the grid. This time, things went much better: Engström and Potez worked their way forward steadily throughout the race, bringing the Mercedes-AMG GT4 home in 12th place. After the previous day's retirement, this was an important way to end the weekend and marked further progress in their season so far.
CV Performance Group X JP Motorsport takes away the strong recovery drives from the double-header in Kerpen and at the Nürburgring. In karting, the focus now shifts to the DKM season finale in Wackersdorf. The ADAC GT4 Germany continues at the Sachsenring from September 11th to 13th.
