Portimão. Successful start for CV Performance Group X JP Motorsport in GT4 South: At the Algarve Iberian Racing Festival at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, the team, with Kyam Potez and Himar Acosta in the Mercedes-AMG GT4, kicked off the new season. The driver duo competed in the Pro-Am classification and secured a podium finish in the very first race.
The weekend held special significance for both drivers. Potez is currently completing his first full season in GT4 racing and was only in the race car for the second time this year. Teammate Acosta, a gentleman driver, also recently transitioned to GT4 racing. Therefore, the season opener in Portugal was crucial for gaining further experience with the Mercedes-AMG GT4.
The first race proved to be an intense start to the new season. In a highly competitive field, Potez and Acosta improved their performance over the distance and ultimately rewarded themselves with third place in the Pro-Am classification. This marked a strong debut on the podium for CV Performance Group X JP Motorsport right from their first appearance.
The duo also delivered a solid performance in the second race. Potez and Acosta once again navigated the race well and confirmed the progress made the previous day. However, a penalty dropped the Mercedes-AMG GT4 down the standings, resulting in a fifth-place finish in the Pro-Am class. Despite missing out on a second podium, the team's overall assessment remained positive.
Particularly valuable for both drivers was the significant learning experience on the challenging Portimão track. The 4.653-kilometer circuit in the Algarve, with its elevation changes and fast sections, is considered one of Europe's most demanding tracks. Thus, the weekend offered ideal conditions for Potez and Acosta to further adapt to the Mercedes-AMG GT4 and the level of GT4 South.
In GT4 South, CV Performance Group X JP Motorsport will continue their season from June 5-7 in Jarama. The 3.850-kilometer track is located near the Spanish capital Madrid and was also a venue for the Formula 1 World Championship until the 1980s.
