The Sachsenring was the venue for the fifth race weekend of the ADAC GT4 Germany. The CV Performance Group entered two Mercedes-AMG GT4s, which were driven by two new drivers. The Austrian Nico Gruber – who will also start at the season finale in Hockenheim for the racing team of Christian Voß – started together with Ferdinand Winter. In addition, Will Tregurtha, who was runner-up in the DTM Trophy last year with the team from Niederzissen, started with Julian Hanses.
Hanses qualified for Saturday’s race on the third grid position. The car with the starting number #85 was in the leading group over the entire race distance and delivered a battle worth seeing with another AMG GT4. Only in the final minutes of the race did Tregurtha pass his rival and secure second position. The second position is the team’s best result so far in the ADAC’s top-class GT4 racing series. Winter and Gruber finished the race in 21st position.
That Sunday was going to be more difficult for the Mercedes team was already evident from the morning qualifying session: both cars then had to start the tenth race of the season from the midfield. After Saturday’s podium result, Julian Hanses struggled with severe tire problems in the closing stages on Sunday. The former Porsche Carrera Cup driver still saved four points in eleventh position. The sister car finished the race in 20th position.
“I’m very happy with second place on Saturday!” said team boss Christian Voß. “Our best result in the ADAC GT4 Germany shows that we are on the right track in terms of development. On Sunday, unfortunately, like the teams from the ADAC GT Masters and many teams from the ADAC GT4 Germany, we had to fight with massive tire problems. The tire apparently can not withstand fast turns, here Pirelli must urgently come up with something! We had the problem on both cars and are glad that the tires did not burst. There were whole chunks torn out of the tires!”
The season finale in the ADAC GT4 Germany will take place in the penultimate week of October at the Hockenheimring. Before that, the team will be battling for the GT4 Race titles at the same venue.
